Library Expectations |
|
| |
Scheduled
Library Visits |
Every class is scheduled to visit the library on a regular basis to
receive library instruction; to checkout, renew and return library
books, kits or magazines and to engage in library activities.
As per the library schedule, library classes will meet either once a
week for one-half hour or every other week for one hour.
|
|
| |
Required
Check-Outs |
All students are required to check out or renew at least one library
item at each library visit.* If a student has one or more
library item overdue, he or she will be limited to one item of their
choice.
*The classroom teacher may require students to check out additional
library materials for AR or reports.

Expected
Behavior
and Use of Library |
All students are expected to be "good library users" by using the
skills they learn and review in their library class time. (See
Library Etiquette, Use, Organization and Research Skills on Library
Web Site:)

Self-Selected Student Materials |
As librarian, I work
with the students to ensure that they become good library users who
are capable of using a variety of selection skills in choosing their
library books, kits and magazines. As time permits, I give
personal guidance and assistance. I encourage students to
select an item that they will find interesting and is useful,
enjoyable and relaxing or challenging to read. Rarely do I try to dissuade them
from checking out a book that they have chosen. If a parent
feels that a particular selection does not meet their student's
reading interest or need, they can ask their student to make an
additional selection or to return it
and make a different selection at their next library visit or at
their earliest convenience. Teachers have passes to send a
student to the library for this purpose when it is convenient for
them or during morning or afternoon recess. Additionally, the
library is open to students after school.

|
| |
Expected
Weekly Returns & Renewals |
All students are expected to either return or renew their library
book, kit or magazine at each library visit. In order to renew
a library item, the student must bring the item to the library.
If a student forgets to return or renew a library item, it is
expected that they will do so as soon as possible. (See
'Library Use Policies' below.)
|
|
| |
Practiced
Library Rules |
Students are expected to follow Library Rules, Library Class Rules
and IVE School Rules at all times.

Library Check
Out Limit |
At each library visit, the students are required to check out at
least one library item.* The maximum number of books or
magazines a student may check out per library visit are listed
below. Because of the limited number of kits, only two
students per class may check out a kit at each class visit.
For library books and magazines the daily library limit* is as
follows:
Kindergarten 1 item
First Grade 1 item
Second Grade 2 items
Third Grade 3 items
Fourth Grade 4 items
Fifth Grade 5 items
|
|
| |
Loan
Period |
Students may renew their library book as many times as they would
like to enable them to finish their book.
|
|
| |
Overdue Notices |
As time permits, students with overdue library items will be offered
an 'Overdue Notice' as they check out.
|
|
| |
Overdue
Reminders |
Teachers may be given a list of students with overdue library items
and/or calls may be made home if the librarian needs extra help and
support in reminding students to return their overdue library
materials.
|
|
| |
Overdue Fines? |
The library does not fine for overdue items. Instead, the
student is limited to one item* of their choice for grades 1-5.*
The kindergarten teachers ask that if one of their students have an
overdue item, that their student's checked out item is held in the
library until their item is returned, paid or exchanged.
*The classroom teacher may require students to check out additional
library materials for AR or reports.
|
|
| |
Replacement of missing, lost or damaged materials |
If there are
circumstances preventing a student from returning library materials
(item is at grandparent's home, packed up in a box for a move,
temporally misplaced, returned to the public library, etc.) please
let the librarian know by calling (425) 837-7166 or by email at
ritchiej@issaquah.wednet.edu and ask for an extension on the
loan period. If library materials are badly damaged or lost,
they should be replaced with cash, check or book exchange.
Please contact librarian for payment or replacement information.
